#Hiding Space Layers

This makes it incredibly hard to visually follow what is happening through the noise. What used to be a quick 5 second trace took me 10 minutes.

Hide should mean hide.
The ability to HIDE upper layers using the "hide upper layers" feature cannot come soon enough.

Currently, if you are looking at a platform that is under another space-object (space belt, space pipe, platform) in Space View, the upper item is visible and translucent, even if "hide upper layers" is selected. Objects on the upper levels should be 100% removed, not made translucent, when the user has asked that they not be shown.

I personally really like the current transparency values. Rather than having a ‘hide’ and ‘transparency’ modes, why not just have a transparency setting for hidden space floors? 100% gives you the hide.
I've been copying my 3-space-layer builds back into the pre-1.0 build just to be able to work on them without the "transparency". Super hard to do wiring with that nonsense on!
I hadn't thought of that, but that's a good idea.
I find it worst when I'm trying to see what's going on from a higher level - when I want to see if a loader is full, or a space belt has gaps in the shapes, or even to see if one of the space belts is disconnected on a lower level. I have to zoom way in before I can make out the details.
I second this, make it a slider and maybe an on/off toggle in the spaceview itself to toggle invisible/transparent
While a slider might be a useful option, it would be better for the top layers to properly vanish and then, maybe have a slider to make them less-invisible. I certainly wouldn't want to wait for a slider implementation when just setting the transparency to 100% would be a faster, easier, and better fix.
I meant a slider in settings to set the transparency in general and a toggle in space layer that switches between transparent/invisible
Sure. I wouldn't object to that as an addition, but that's more work and would take longer. Changing the current setting seems faster and easier. 🙂

agreed, but there is no damage if suggesting both, we can assume the devs are experienced enough to tackle the low lying fruit first and the rest at a later iteration

I probably wouldn’t if it wasn’t clear I wouldn’t win. It’s been annoying exactly once, when I was trying to track capacity, but I’d at least like the devs to know there’s some opposition, even if it’s a minority
A unanimous vote is liable to cause a complete change. Even a single downvote is more likely to lead to a changeable setting or multiple view modes
It drives me crazy constantly. Any time I'm trying to see a lower train unloader or space belt without zooming way in, any time I'm trying to hook up belts after placing platforms, and time I'm trying to track tight bundles of rails, just any time I'm doing anything on the space scale, that isn't on the top and only level.
A complete change would be the best result. But I understand.

I would also like to be able to do this. The transparency is not enough and the upper layers are distracting. I would prefer to have them gone completely.

I'm hoping it happens soon. My default workflow is to place platforms and then wire them, and it's a nightmare trying to place belts on a space scale from a reasonable height if there is anything even slightly overlapping them on an upper level.
Yeah I've basically stopped playing since a couple days after 1.0 because of it
It took me 30 minutes and massive confusion and headaches to do what used to take me just a minute or two
