[Dev] Placing large belts may cause lag
Done โข Priority: Medium โข Fix: OLD Early Access โข Resolution: Done
Placing long Conveyor Belts across multiple Space Platforms causes the game to become laggy. The issue occurs when dragging belts to place them across platforms arranged in a row. Several Discord players reported experiencing this lag during belt placement. However, initial testing on Alpha 5 could not confirm the issue is still present, and it may be OS-related. The bug was reportedly already fixed by a developer, with further testing showing no lag even with belts crossing many platforms.
[Dev] Placing very long belts is very slow (even while dragging)
Done โข Priority: Medium โข Fix: 2 - Demo โข Resolution: Done
When placing very long Conveyor Belts by dragging, the game performance becomes very slow. The slowdown occurs during the placement action itself, even while the player is still dragging to extend the belt. This affects the building experience by making it difficult to quickly construct long belt lines across the factory or Space Platform.
Long space belts cause consistent drops in performance
To Do โข Priority: Highest โข Fix: Post 1.0 โข Game: 0.1.1
Long Space Pipes cause consistent performance drops, including FPS dips and spikes on the performance graph. This can be reproduced in Classic Mode on a Regular scenario by placing long Space Pipes away from The Vortex. Each long Space Pipe produces a visible spike, whereas long Space Belts do not cause the same impact. The issue also severely affects Manufacture Mode gameplay. A related report suggests shapes moving slowly in parts of the factory may be connected to this problem.

Predictions still produce lag spikes
Done โข Priority: High โข Fix: 4 - Early Access โข Game: 0.0.0-alpha23.1 โข Resolution: Done
Shape Previews still cause significant performance issues and lag spikes when dragging items around in the game. The problem is triggered by having very long Space Belts (around 4000 tiles) in the Savegame, which generates excessive garbage collection taking 60ms even without deep profiling. When the Space Platform with the long belt is in view, the game becomes unplayable due to the preview calculation overhead. The lag is severe enough to make normal gameplay impossible when these condition...
Improve Blueprint Placement Performance
Done โข Priority: Critical โข Fix: 1.0.0 Release โข Resolution: Done
Placing large blueprints causes severe FPS drops, tanking to around 10 FPS, especially when fluid machines are involved. The issue occurs with blueprints containing close to 350 machines and is noticeable at minimum graphics settings and above. The root cause is that placement logic performs too many expensive computations simultaneously while moving a blueprint, including shape previews, placement rule checks, and placement map layout updates, generating excessive garbage. The proposed solut...
noticeable hang when placing island blueprints after a platform with painters
Done โข Priority: Highest โข Fix: 4 - Early Access โข Resolution: Done
Placing Space Platform blueprints after a platform containing Painters causes a noticeable hang or lag during placement. The issue occurs specifically when dragging Pin Pusher blueprints from the Output of a Painter-containing platform. Replacing Painters with other machines like Cutters or Conveyor Belts eliminates the lag. Placing a Space Belt between the Painter platform and the new platform also prevents the hang. Deleting structures in this scenario causes even worse performance issues.

Anyone.............?
You can see in the video after I get lag, I shorten the belt and it runs smooth again
It starts to lag at around 500 platform units' worth of space belt
The bigger a blueprint the slower the game becomes when moving one, so the longer the space belt is being dragged the bigger the blueprint is becoming and that is why the game slows down.
I mentioned in the first post that I didn't have this issue during early access though
I tested it and it happens in both 0.1.1 and 1.0
That's hardware to hardware differences though
I'm on the same PC I didn't have the issue on
Can you retest on 0.1.1 and confirm?
My save won't be compatible
So I'd have to go through all the tutorial steps
But I didn't have the issue in 0.1.1 and earlier, or I would have made a report
If you do the following:
- Start 0.1.1
- Start a new classic mode save
- F1 -> cheats.enable
- F1 -> god
Then you will be able to attempt to place a really long space belt
Ok I'll get back to you
Thanks ๐
No worries
Ok I was getting the lag in 0.1.1
I didn't actually play 0.1.1 for long because the miner gaps bug was annoying me
But in 0.0.9 I'm not getting the lag. I took a video and went right up to 1,000 platform units
0.0.9 would be where I remember not getting the issue
:
It needs to be checked out. It started in 0.1.1 and remains in 1.0
There's not much going on there in my original video, just a line. Compared to a huge blueprint with a load of buildings
I am really sorry but can you use the following and retest?
F1 -> debug.show-charts 1
And then do the dragging again looking at the top right graph to see any decrease in performance?
Which version?
The one where it isn't happening. 0.0.9?
Thx for marking as "to do".
Your fps are limited to 60fps. So you would need to go out further until the performance drop is noticed.
Lets say that the slow down starts at 200fps and that is reflected in the graph, because the fps limit is set to 60fps (or vsync is on) it wouldn't be noticeable until going out further.
In all videos including the top (v1.0 lagging) video I'm zoomed out at pretty much the same distance
