Big savefiles have very long loading times and cause the game to freeze if it's minimized while loading
To Do • Priority: Medium • Fix: Post 1.0 • Game: 0.1.1
Large savegames with over 500k structures experience very long loading times, and the loading widget stops spinning during the process, which may lead the operator to believe the game has crashed. When the game is minimized while loading in borderless mode, a "stopped working" error message appears, though the game will eventually load if given enough time. Testing across multiple versions shows loading times have generally increased, with borderless mode being particularly affected when focu...

For bigger saves there is a delay before game is responsive on loading and then returning to the main menu
Done • Priority: Highest • Fix: 1.1 Release [1.1.0] • Resolution: Fix Verified
When loading larger savegames and returning to the main menu, the game becomes unresponsive for a noticeable delay. Repeating this cycle of starting a savegame and returning to the main menu causes progressively longer delays. The issue was caused by an async Unity operation traversing the entire scene hierarchy during screen transitions. The fix involved removing this operation, restoring behavior from earlier versions. The fix was verified as resolving the sluggishness in subsequent builds.

Loading time is extremely slow with ~450k buildings
Done • Priority: Highest • Fix: 4 - Early Access • Game: 0.0.0-alpha22.4 • Resolution: Done
Loading time for savefiles with approximately 450,000 structures is extremely slow, taking around 4-5 minutes to complete. The performance issue was suspected to be caused by quadratic scaling in the loading algorithm. This significantly impacts players with large factories, making the game difficult to access. The issue has been verified and fixed, with loading time improved by roughly 40% through linear scaling optimization.
Larger saves have really long save times for alpha 4+5 (3+ hours for 1.4million structural units)
Done • Priority: Critical • Fix: 1.0 Release [1.0.0] • Resolution: Fix Verified
Large savegames with over 1 million structures experience significantly increased load times in alpha 4 and alpha 5 compared to alpha 3, with reports of loads taking 3+ hours. One contributor is rocket baking added to the startup sequence in alpha 4, which adds approximately 1.5 seconds of flat loading time. A separate test with a 172k machine count savegame containing a Make Anything Machine blueprint showed load times jumping from about 1 minute in alpha 3 to over 8 minutes in alpha 4 and 5...

System memory + GPU memory increases quickly when moving over foundations with lots of building elements
To Do • Priority: Medium • Fix: Probably Never
System memory and GPU memory usage increases quickly and continuously when the player camera moves over Space Platforms that contain many placed Structures. GPU memory fills to maximum capacity and stays full, while System memory gradually fills over time. This occurs in Classic Mode when moving the camera along platforms with dense building layouts. The expected behavior is that memory usage should remain relatively constant even when loading many Structures into view, rather than continuous...
Moving the camera to 999999999 999999999 causes the game to run out of memory
To Do • Priority: Low • Fix: None
Moving the Camera to coordinates 999999999 999999999 using enable cheats causes shapez 2 to run out of memory and stop responding. The exact trigger point is unknown, but the issue occurs when moving the Camera extremely far out from the normal play area. Under normal conditions the Game works as expected, but at these extreme coordinates a memory error message appears and the Game becomes unresponsive. This is a low priority issue that occurs only through cheats but should eventually be addr...

[1.0.3-rc3] [⚠️ MODDED] having explored large chunks of the map causing large loading lag
I'm gonna go ahead and say it's not the mod 😓
loading takes significantly longer than quitting too, but both are affected
I can't remember if it works this way but it could be because exploring all of these chunks might have stored them in the save so when you load it, it has to read and place all of them
it should clear chunks if nothing is placed in them
The loading time seems normal for how many structural units there are in your save (over 800,000)
I had no issues with my system in regards to performance. How much system ram do you have?
64 GB?
✅ Thank you for providing further information, our team will have a look again!
how long did it take for you?
Probably a minute.
If travelling over chunks like you describe, the ram will go up and up pretty fast.
I was about max out my 32GB of ram within a minute, but that is probably because half of it was already taken up with the OS.
a minute is really long though /joking but kindof not joking
probably not a bug then. Sorry for having too high of expectations for performance
