[Dev] Random crashes on M1 when leaving or loading game
Done β’ Priority: High β’ Fix: OLD Early Access β’ Resolution: Done
Random crashes occur on M1 devices when leaving the game or loading a Savegame. The issue cannot be consistently reproduced. The crashes happen during game exit or when attempting to load a save file. This affects M1 Mac users specifically during game session transitions. The bug report was closed due to inability to properly reproduce the issue.
Crash on startup
Done β’ Priority: Medium β’ Fix: Version 0.0.9 β’ Game: 24.2.2 β’ Resolution: Won't Fix
shapez 2 crashes on startup with a SIGSEGV error when running natively on Linux, likely triggered by recent OS package updates (such as mesa, mutter, vulkan-loader, or xwayland). The game was previously working but newer package versions broke compatibility. Running under Proton appears to work as a workaround, though sound issues were also reported. The crash occurs in native code before the menu is displayed. This is not something the development team can fix on their end, so using Proton i...

Crash during startup process
Done β’ Priority: Medium β’ Fix: Future β’ Resolution: Won't Fix
The game / shapez 2 crashes during the startup process on Linux using Proton support. The crash occurs right after clicking allow anonymous reporting on first launch. On the second launch attempt after clicking the same option, the game successfully reaches the start menu. The log shows multiple errors including a 32-bit library being incorrectly loaded into a 64-bit process and Chromium embedded browser component issues. The crash prevents the player from accessing the game on first startup,...
CRASH after Dev Warning - StackOverflowException: The requested operation caused a stack overflow.
Done β’ Priority: Highest β’ Fix: Version 0.0.9 β’ Resolution: Done
shapez 2 crashes with a StackOverflowException after confirming the DEV Warning on game launch, preventing the player from reaching the main menu. The crash occurs when loading a Savegame and accepting the dev warning dialog. The stack overflow is caused by infinite recursion in the ISpacePathInput connection system, specifically related to Space Belts or Space Pipes pathfinding. The error log mentions a missing serialized upgrade for Pump Booster. The issue has been marked as already fixed a...
On macOS, game must be restarted one or two times until buttons are clickable
Done β’ Priority: Low β’ Fix: OLD Early Access β’ Resolution: Done
On macOS, shapez 2 must be restarted one or two times before buttons become clickable. This issue occurs on both M1 and M2 processors. The problem appears to be a Unity engine bug that affects macOS versions of the game. When the game first launches, UI buttons are unresponsive and require one or two full restarts before they function properly. This prevents normal gameplay until the restart workaround is applied.
Game does not launch with invalid changelog
Done β’ Priority: Highest β’ Fix: 2 - Demo β’ Resolution: Done
shapez 2 fails to launch completely when the changelog JSON file contains invalid data. The game should handle this error gracefully by displaying an error message in the changelog dialog while still allowing the game to launch normally. This issue was fixed so that the game now shows a "failed" error message and continues to launch instead of blocking startup entirely.
π« Many thanks for reporting this issue! We have created an internal ticket for further investigation and will keep you updated. The internal ticket ID is SPZ2-6284 for reference. If you want to provide further information, just comment on this thread.
[SPZ2-6284] [1.0.3-rc3] Game crashes when launch on Mac
Thank you for your report. Two quick things to try:
- Disable the Steam overlay for this game (Steam β game properties β uncheck "Enable Steam Overlay"). The steam overlay was one of the last items loaded in the log.
- Verify game file integrity via Steam. Since the game was working, it's worth a shot to verify the files to see if this fixes anything.
Lastely, I wanted to confirm more information about what version you were last able to play on. Were you using the early access build prior to 1.0 release? Or were you first starting on the 1.0 release?
Thank you,
Josh
