#[1.0.2-rc1] Random GPU driver crashes on DX11

After updating the game and starting an operator license save, I'm experiencing hard driver crashes. The amount of time I can play before the crash varies. When it occurs, my entire display stops drawing anything, and I can't do anything to recover it except for restarting the whole system. The crashes might coincide with the game drawing UIs (not the same one), but I can't say for sure. This is on Windows 11 with an Nvidia driver. I've not tried DX12 or Vulkan yet.

Here's the Player.log, luckily this time the crash was caught in the log, the last time it left no trace.

Crash when going back to the main menu from gameplay (DX11)
Done • Priority: Medium • Fix: 4 - Early Access • Resolution: Done

A crash occurs when returning to the main menu from gameplay while running shapez 2 in DirectX 11 mode. The issue was reported but could not be reproduced on the latest master build. Testing was requested with specific command line flags for native leak detection to gather more information through the player log. The crash was subsequently verified as fixed and unable to be reproduced. DirectX 11 will be used by default for smoke testing to monitor for this issue.

Rare display crash condition
Done • Priority: Medium • Fix: OLD Early Access • Resolution: Won't Fix

Player experienced a rare system crash after approximately 40 minutes of playtime where all displays went dark and sound output looped. The crash required a hard PC reboot via power button. A second occurrence happened at 2.2 hours of playtime with similar symptoms but game audio continued normally. The issue appears to be system-specific as it also occurs in other games like Victoria 3. Player attempted fixes including disabling fullscreen optimizations, updating graphics drivers, and switch...

There are random crashes/freezes for some users when using directx12
To Do • Priority: Low • Fix: None

Some players experience random crashes and freezes when running shapez 2 with DirectX 12. The issue occurs intermittently during normal gameplay after setting the graphics API to DirectX 12. Log analysis reveals repeated errors related to failed memory address access. Switching away from DirectX 12 reportedly resolves the crashes. This affects multiple players on a semi-regular basis.

Consistent crash on DX12 with submenu
Done • Priority: Medium • Fix: None • Resolution: Won't Fix

When launching shapez 2 in DirectX 12 with specific settings (Simplified Chinese language, 3840x2160 resolution, vsync off), loading a particular savegame and hovering the cursor back and forth between toolbar slots (such as between Conveyor Belt and rotators) causes a consistent crash to desktop. The issue does not occur when using DX11 or Vulkan rendering. This was closed as won't fix.

Game becomes non responsive and resolution changes if using DX12 in full screen mode and there is only one monitor that is turned off and back on again
Done • Priority: Medium • Fix: None • Resolution: Won't Fix

When using DirectX 12 in fullscreen mode on a single monitor setup, turning the monitor off and back on causes shapez 2 to become unresponsive to mouse input and display at an incorrect resolution in the top-left corner. The issue is specific to DirectX 12 and does not occur with DirectX 11 or Vulkan. The game should remain responsive and maintain proper resolution after the monitor is turned off and on. This also occurs with multiple monitors and persists even when running OBS Studio.

Thank you for your report viv! Are your nvidia drivers up to date! If so, could you try verifying the integrity of game files on steam?

Thanks! The drivers aren't at the absolute latest version, but they're fairly recent. I'll update them and post if the situation changes. The game files seem to check out.

@inner herald update: I updated the driver, the issue still persists with pretty much the same errors

And if not nVidia Broadcast, anything else that might be using the GPU other than the game.

Another thing: I tested this on Vulkan, it works perfectly without crashing, so this only affects DX11 as far as I know
