Crash on startup
Done โข Priority: Medium โข Fix: Version 0.0.9 โข Game: 24.2.2 โข Resolution: Won't Fix
shapez 2 crashes on startup following recent OS updates on Linux, where it was previously working. The crash produces a SIGSEGV error indicating a fatal error in the mono runtime or native libraries. The player identified that newer package versions of mesa, mutter, vulkan-loader, and xwayland broke the game, while older versions worked. Running the game under Proton provides a workaround, though sound issues were also present. The crash prevents the game from launching entirely on the affect...
Crash during startup process
Done โข Priority: Medium โข Fix: Future โข Resolution: Won't Fix
The game / shapez 2 crashes during the startup process on Linux using Proton support. The crash occurs right after clicking allow anonymous reporting on first launch. On the second launch attempt after clicking the same option, the game successfully reaches the start menu. The log shows multiple errors including a 32-bit library being incorrectly loaded into a 64-bit process and Chromium embedded browser component issues. The crash prevents the player from accessing the game on first startup,...
Initialization failure due to (incorrect) unknown windows version.
Done โข Priority: Medium โข Fix: OLD Early Access โข Game: 6.2.9200 โข Resolution: Won't Fix
Multiple players are experiencing an initialization failure in shapez 2 where the game incorrectly detects their operating system as an unsupported version. After the initial credits and loading screen at startup, an error message appears stating the operating system is not supported and requires Windows 10 or newer, even though affected players are running Windows 10 or Windows 11. The game displays "Unknown Windows ()64bit" in the bottom left corner. This prevents players from accessing the...
lowend Laptop does not launch on DX12 (crash)
Done โข Priority: High โข Fix: 4 - Early Access โข Resolution: Done
shapez 2 fails to launch on low-end laptops when using Direct X 12, immediately crashing with a driver internal error (DXGIERRORDRIVERINTERNALERROR) during or after the first frame. The crash appears to be a panic in the DX12 driver within Unity and cannot be fixed without a Unity engine update. Direct X 11 and Vulkan work as alternatives, though DX11 occasionally crashes when returning to the main menu or in Space View. Players can use launch options to force Vulkan or DX11 as a workaround.
Analytics Crash at start of game
Done โข Priority: Medium โข Fix: Future โข Resolution: Done
Analytics Crash at start of Savegame occurs when the GameAnalytics SDK fails to initialize due to filesystem permission errors. The crash happens when the game attempts to access the GameAnalytics directory but encounters a System.IO.IOException for permission denied, followed by UnauthorizedAccessException and TypeInitializationException. This prevents the game from starting properly. The issue was fixed by adding a try-catch block around the game analytics initialization to prevent the game...
Game crashes when using a RX6600XT or RX6600 when using Vulkan
To Do โข Priority: Medium โข Fix: None โข Game: 1.0.0-beta2
shapez 2 crashes on launch when reaching the main menu while using the Vulkan graphics API on systems with an AMD RX 6600 or RX 6600 XT GPU. The crash can also be triggered by setting graphics quality above low after deleting the settings files and restarting. The expected behavior is that the game runs without crash-related issues when using Vulkan on these GPUs.

Hi @potent flower ! Thank you for your report!
Are you running on a Windows PC or Linux?
Have you tried verifying the integrity of the game files?
Windows 11 and i have tried to verify
โ Thank you for providing further information, our team will have a look again!
Also i have tried reinstalling
Do you have any antivirus working in the background? That could possibly cause something like that to happen.
Windows Defender I have seen do something like that with applications I have had in the past.
Windows defender and i already allowed the app to pass by making the files an exception

When opening the game from the exe file it opens and loads halfway on the loading screen before the main menu before crashing
No issues with any other games?
No
โ Thank you for providing further information, our team will have a look again!
Has the game ever worked before?
The 1.0.0 for the title. Do you mean 0.1.1? That is the latest public release currently.
No and im using the latest version
I couldnt check the current game version because the game doesnt opeb
Thanks for clarifying.
Are you using the latest drivers for the video card?
Also is it a laptop?
No its a pc and i have downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia app
โ Thank you for providing further information, our team will have a look again!
I have a test computer.
I did a completely clean install of windows 11.
Then installed Shapez2
Then I deleted every application that was added as part of the OS installation process and the game ran fine.
I even told windows that the game couldn't change files on its initial starting, and it still started up fine.
Here are the only things left that I can think of to try:
- Right click on the Shapez2 in the steam list and choose properties.
- **General ** -> Turn off the Steam Overlay option
- ** General **-> Turn the Steam Cloud option off.
- Installed Files -> Browse -> File Explorer and leave File Explorer open.
- Uninstall the game via steam
- Go back to the File Explorer, and if the Shapez2 folder still exists, delete it.
- Delete everything inside the following folder: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\tobspr Games
- Reinstall
Then keep the steam cloud option off and start the game.
tried that and still it closes instally

here after trying it
Hi there @potent flower, thanks for sticking with us on this.
I have tried to replicate what you are describing without luck so far. The player log is suspiciously empty, which looks like the game is closing before a scene is loading.
I'd like to check for any conflicts, possibly with another application that could be injecting a DLL that may cause the title to fail.
- Are there any applications such as overlays, Performance/monitoring software, Anti-cheat from other games, screen recording software, or RGB/Peripheral controllers running when the game is launched? If so, can you try disabling them? I want to rule out any conflicts.
This can be a pretty exhaustive list to check for, especially third-party peripheral/RGB controllers. These could be managers for headphones, keyboard/mouse RGB, or programs like Afterburner. Rarely you can encounter some conflicts that can cause a title to close in this manner. While not a solution, it could help rule that potential problem out.
the only thing that starts running that i could find is game bar

I met with one of our team's engineers to see if we could narrow this down, and the log file is closing out very early, either at or before the game takes over from the initial start up. Unfortunately, that means we don't have any information shown in the log currently to help us narrow this down.
That said, I'd love to still try to help here and figure out what exactly is going on. I know you have already answered a lot of questions, but I wanted to ask a few more to see if there was something maybe we missed. Please, if you are willing to answer:
- What region/language is windows set to
- The playerlog is showing a general C: drive steam install, I wanted to confirm if you had moved the files after install or booting from a non-primary drive
- I can see the GPU, if you do not mind sharing, what CPU are you using and what is the total system RAM
- You mentioned you have not been able to open the title yet, is that just for the 1.0.X versions, or were you also unable to open the public EA build (0.1.1)
- Are you launching the game with steam in offline mode or while logged out (or a different profile)?
Thank you again for taking the time to answer these.
Other routes that could possibly help, however I know you already explored some of these:
- Completely deleting all game files and installing from steam again.
- Doing a full re-install of graphics drivers.
- Direct X 12 is generally less stable at the moment, but attempting to launch with DX 12 to see if that allows you to reach the menus.
- Closing out peripheral software and overlays and trying to boot the title again.
- region is finland and language is english
- i have not move them i installed the game on C:
- cpu is intel i5-11400F and i have 32gb of ddr4 ram
- i cant open any build
- im launching it from steam in online mode

i got it working i just had to uninstall windows powertoys
even tho it wasnt even enabled

I'm glad to hear this was resolved! I'm going to mark this ticket as closed not a game bug. Thanks for keeping with us on that!
