#[SPZ2-5988] [0.1.1] Stutter When Selecting and Placing Build Items

Having some trouble with fps stutter pretty early on. Whenever I press the number keys to select a buildable (or select the button), I get a brief stutter spike. This also happens when placing the objects. I've tried a lot of troubleshooting with no success. So far I've done the following:

  • Turned on and off Parallel Rendering and the number of threads.
  • Tried with VSync on and off (both in game and through the NVIDIA Control Panel).
  • Tried all three renderers.
  • Tried different refresh rates on my monitor.
  • Turned graphic settings to Extreme and Minimal.
  • Tried different fps limits (stutters existed at all frame caps from 30 fps through 144, but were slightly less prevalent on 30 fps)
  • Restarted game and computer several times.

I've attached my save file and a recording of the issue with the in-game fps debug menu active.

Thanks!

Game stutters when adding or deleting things for smaller part counts
Done โ€ข Priority: High โ€ข Fix: 1.0 Bugfixes before Feature Freeze โ€ข Resolution: Duplicate

The game stutters when placing or deleting structures on space platforms, even with small part counts of 392 or 952 parts. The issue occurs in Classic Mode with a Regular scenario when copying and pasting platforms near a space belt on a shape asteroid. The stutter is noticeable during both placement and removal operations. The game should run smoothly when placing or removing platforms with relatively small numbers of structures.

Simulation causes stuttering on some systems when Simulation Threads >= ProcessorCount
Done โ€ข Priority: Medium โ€ข Fix: Dimension Update [0.1.0] โ€ข Resolution: Done

When Simulation Threads setting is set to a value greater than or equal to the system's logical processor count, shapez 2 experiences noticeable stuttering and freezes lasting 100ms or more. This issue is more apparent on systems with lower core counts that can otherwise maintain smooth framerates. The problem occurs because the Max setting was using a fixed 32 threads regardless of system capabilities. An Auto setting that dynamically sets threads based on the actual processor count resolves...

[0.0.9-rc1] Camera jerks, low fps every few seconds
Done โ€ข Priority: High โ€ข Fix: Version 0.0.9 โ€ข Game: 0.0.9-rc1 โ€ข Resolution: Cannot Reproduce

After starting a new savegame and enabling cheats, moving the camera around causes periodic freezing or low FPS every few seconds. Disabling "Parallel Rendering" in graphics settings appears to fix the issue. Multiple players have reported similar experiences, though the issue is not consistently reproducible on QA systems. The development team has identified several spike sources including TranslucentImage.Start, HUDIslandSelectionDetails, and HUDInteractionZoomManager, but no clear dependen...

VSync causes game to lag and stutter when refresh rate is higher than the current frame rate
To Do โ€ข Priority: High โ€ข Fix: Probably Never

When VSync is enabled and the monitor's refresh rate exceeds the current frame rate, shapez 2 experiences significant lag and stuttering, particularly noticeable during camera movement past large factories. With VSync off, the same scenario runs smoothly. This occurs because VSync forces the hardware to wait for the monitor's v-blank signal, throttling the CPU/GPU and causing fluctuating frame timing (delta time), which results in jittery camera movement and rubber-banding. The development te...

Predictions still produce lag spikes
Done โ€ข Priority: High โ€ข Fix: 4 - Early Access โ€ข Game: 0.0.0-alpha23.1 โ€ข Resolution: Done

Shape Previews still cause significant performance issues and lag spikes when dragging items around in the game. The problem is triggered by having very long Space Belts (around 4000 tiles) in the Savegame, which generates excessive garbage collection taking 60ms even without deep profiling. When the Space Platform with the long belt is in view, the game becomes unplayable due to the preview calculation overhead. The lag is severe enough to make normal gameplay impossible when these condition...

Selecting platform buildings impacts performance
To Do โ€ข Priority: High โ€ข Fix: Post 1.0

Selecting Space Platform structures like Space Belts, Space Pipes, Rails, and Space Platforms negatively impacts performance with noticeable drops in frame time and frame rates. The issue can be reproduced by starting a Classic Mode save on Regular scenario, enabling cheats, using debug charts, placing platform structures, and selecting everything. Space Platforms themselves cause more performance impact when selected compared to the structures placed on them. The selection and blueprint rend...

Could you try disabling shape previews and see if that improves it? Also dies this happen while the game is paused (with P)?

It looks like this still occurs when the game is paused with P.

I feel dumb, could you let me know how to turn off shape previews? I wasnโ€™t able to find info about how to do that manually.

disabling shape previews is only a setting in 1.0, you can't do it yet in 0.1.1 (I'm assuming tobs missed the game version info ๐Ÿ˜…)

Ok perfect, I was just wanting to make sure I wasnโ€™t being dumb. ๐Ÿ˜‚
