Global signal transmitters, global signal receivers and operator signal receivers are all able to be placed on the 1x4 notches on the edge of platforms. On the condition that their output (or in the case of the global transmitters, its input) is either pointing in the direction of the notch or away from it.
This also works on the vortex island, both on the outer notches of the platform and on the inside (Where you input shapes).

Actually, that causes a 12 tick delay on the signal.
