#[SPZ2-4839] Floating layers do exist
18 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
you can see from the [SPZ2-3399] tag in the post you linked that the devs are aware of this bug, but since it doesn't have a big impact on gameplay, it probably is low priority
May this bug be patched, for someone is suffering from it.
Thank you for your report and bringing attention to this old issue @fiery badger ! 😄
Internal ticket has been flagged as not a bug. Shapes are not validated in the shape viewer and the item producer allows players to create any shape, be it valid or not.
We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause
this doesn't seem to be a shape viewer issue, as you can see in https://discord.com/channels/1000343719314198548/1280297571507638329 , the bug happens to shapes in regular machines
There is no limitation as to what shapes the player can create with regular machines, be it valid or invalid shapes
this might not be highlighted clearly in the post I linked, but the effect of this can be seen without using shape producers, by creating specific shapes
From what I understand on the posts shared through this post, is that there's a way of stacking shapes onto shapes that cause one of the layers to appear as floating instead of showing a pin that's supposed to be there, is that correct?
this seems to be a method used to demonstrate the issue, but no the actual issue is that you can start from a shape that is valid (i.e. possible to create, has no floating parts) and apply some operation to it that will transform it into a shape with floating parts, which shouldn't be possible according to the stacking mechanics described ingame
(I'll start up the game and make an example if it can be clearer)
It's working as intended, actually. The stacker's rules say that stacking pieces will fall on shapes below where there are gaps. The invisible shape is created via cutter, which does not follow stacking rules. If that shape then goes into a stacker, it will fall back into place
here are some screenshots showing the issue (taken in a save in the insane scenario to have acces to 5 layer shapes) :
- image 1 shows that by passing
CuCuCuCu:----CuCu:CucrCuCu:P-crCuCu:CucrCuCuthrough a half destroyer creates a shape with floating parts :CuCu----:--------:Cucr----:P-cr----:Cucr----(the input is generated via a shape producer for convenience but the shape is possible to make without cheats) - image 2 shows that when stacking a single pin on an empty column of the shape with floating parts, the parts stay floating (this is done to trigger the stacker physics as a stacker doesn't work with a single input shape)
- image 3 shows that when passing
----CuCu:CuCuCuCuthrough a half destroyer, the east half falls down due to gravity, showing that half destroyers and cutters are supposed to apply shape gravity rules
Obviously, raw material cgcgcgcg:CuCuCuCu:crCu----:crP-----:crCu---- is a craftable shape. Half-breaking it will give you this floating shape.
seems like there's a lot of confusion in the communication - between what can be done with the shape viewer & sandbox buildings vs what should be possible to create while playing the game normally
this has lead to the reported issue and discussions regarding it being misunderstood up until now, it seems
we'll clarify internally that this is an issue that's affecting regular shape production as well, so that the bug can be fixed
Here's a factory (insane mode)...
I've also included a factory that does not stack correctly. Might be the same root cause.
