#Cause of “train drift”?

Context: Last time, train drift wasn’t a problem, as a train station could hold 4 trains’ worth of resources, so the MAM train stations could buffer the resources to use by the time the next set of trains arrived (I was using 4 shape and paint trains per MAM) Now train stations can only hold 2-3 trains’ worth of resources, so by the time the next set of trains arrive, only 2-3 trains can unload into the station meaning that 1. the later trains to arrive waste their unloading reducing effective transported resources and 2. the train station has an insufficiently large buffer and eventually runs out by the time the trains next arrive compromising the MAM output.
Problem: As a solution, i tried staggering the train schedules (ie respawning/resummoning the trains such they are spaced apart and they would not waste their unload. Over time, the train schedules will drift back into a clustered configuration creating the problem described earlier and compromising the MAM output. I need to know what the cause is so i can get to the bottom of it
