#[0.0.9-rc7] Wire not working, undeletable wires, space belts slow, adding space belts causing crash

I switched from square to hex mode and created a custom map with big shape/fluid asteroids to work on a MAM. After finishing all milestones, I imported the square mode MAM (5 layers, with crystals) from a blueprint and started fixing it up for hex mode after deleting everything except 1 layer. The MAM was working fine for 1 layer, but when I copy and pasted it over to make 4 layers, it started misbehaving.

  1. The wires to set up the initial signal (I have a global receiver, and also a toggle to switch to a custom signal generator) stopped working sometimes. The signal part just goes black beyond the gates. When I tried to delete a wire and re-add it, the game didn’t allow me to add it back. When I shift-clicked to select the area, I could see that there are undeleted wires that are no longer visible.

2, The launchers in the MAM seem to work extremely slow (like 8-10%). When I deleted the space belt and re-added it, the game crashed - not exactly a crash, but everything disappeared except the purple background, and not even the Escape key to bring up the menu worked anymore. Note only those involved in the MAM are having the slowdown problem - I have a few other factories making milestone shapes, and those are running at 100% or close to it.

I also noticed a few other oddities, but these are the two most obvious ones. If I restart the game, it comes up somewhat functional, until it goes south again. I believe these started happening around the time the game upgraded itself to 0.0.9-rc7, but I’m not positive it is related to the upgrade.

I took a movie of each, but Discord is not letting me post them since they are too big (the limit is 10MB, the captures I have are 165 and 288 MB). Is there some other place I can post them?

Here is a screenshot of an invisible wire (a local transmitter in this case). The first is how it looks usually, the second is what shows up when I select the area. (Edit - screenshots went to the original post)

For 1, could you also share the logfile? There's some issues when you copy-paste between quad and hex savegames, that can cause follow up errors

#

Also for 2) there will be very likely an exception that also causes that behaviour (if it's not even related to 1) so the log file would be super handy! 🙂

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately my logs seem to have rotated (even Player-prev.log is from Jan 2nd), and I have been playing different game modes (the non-broken Quad mode in Shapez 2, as well as Shapes I got on the $0.99 sale! 😇 ) so there's nothing in those logs about the issues I reported here. I went back to the old (broken) savegame, and now everything is working fine! 😅 I tried so many times before creating this post and nothing worked, but now that I got your attention, I can't reproduce it anymore. I'll try some more and let you know as soon as I see it again. Sorry!

Actually, I did see one issue - some of the space belts were not loading shapes into platforms at all. It could be fixed by deleting space belts or platforms and adding them back. I ended up cutting and pasting back the entire MAM to fix it. I believe this was reported a while back, but here are the logs just in case.

It finally happened! Wires not working - I edited the signal producer, it didn't reflect on the display connected to it, and when I toggled the switch to flip between it and the global receiver, it didn't do anything. I deleted one section of the wire, it deleted a whole bunch, and I tried to add it back, and couldn't because of the "phantom" wire. The space belt was loading very slowly onto the platform, so I deleted and added back the space belt, and I got the purple screen.

Awesome thank you! It will take a bit of time until we can look into it (due to absences), but now with the log file it should be easy to repro!

Great, thanks! Take care y'all and don't work too hard! 🤗

You got me curious so I looked at the log file, and found that this is the error:

—-
Exception: Can not stack shapes with different part count
—-

Which reminded me that when I was converting my MAM from Quad-mode to Hex-mode, I had to change a few places where the Signal Producer was creating a Quad-mode signal that doesn’t work with Hex-mode (like the “cu------“ that I was using to detect if the output of a Shape Analizer is a crystal), so I went to look if there are any more. I think I found the problem - it was the “P-P-P-P-“ I was using for the “whole layer is crystal” special case. There were two places I had this (which then got repeated for different layers), I changed them to “P-P-P-P-P-P-“ and now the same shape “crcrcrcrcrcr:HuHuHuHuHuHu:crcrcrcrcrcr” that triggered the issue last time is not causing a problem any more. 😁

Yeah this is a known issue when switching between hex and quad, it's already on our radar 🙂

I see. So the crash/purple screen when adding a space belt is also known?

It is very likely a follow up error, so we need to fix this issue first and then hopefully that is also resolved 🙂

Yeah, at least for me the belt slowness and purple screen stopped happening once I changed the config to not stack Quad-mode and Hex-mode signals. So at least the only way for me to repro will be gone once the first item is fixed. 😆

I copied my MAM from square to hex and now I have wires randomly disappearing. Guessing this is my issue?

Seems to be all good now that I removed all the square stuff.
