does this actually result in gaps or is it just the display? We could be measuring incorrectly as well

I do see gaps later in the pipeline that this seems to contribute to. I haven't figured out if there are additional contributors.
I had a similar issue where I was getting very minor gaps, and it turned out that because the areas where the shape was being sent to was split up, a part arrived slightly faster than the other and caused a small stall that would wouldn't stop production but just made it a tiny bit less efficient. To fix it you can block the line at the end and wait for it to stop then resume it and see if the block persists. If you clear all the items, it will just reset and have the same issue.
