Looking for advise on how to build a shape, I just dont get it!

If I make the circle with pins and combine it, it breaks the crystals.
If I make a two layered Circle it colours both the levels so im missing the middle pin level.

What obvious mechanic don't i understand? 😂

have you tested that the first method actually breaks the crystals ?

lol no but it shows combiners break crystals in the tutorial, ok let me acutally try it 😂
