Connecting 2 overworld conveyor belts

I've found a position where the desired connection cannot be made

I've included 2 screenshots, the one with red highlight is trying to connect the left platform to the belts on its right. There is no way to make this connection.

However you can see that in the second screenshot I am able to make this connection, but ONLY IF the belts already exist on the left, and we drag from the right platform.
